Mason City man accused of using stolen credit cards, fighting with police enters into plea deal

MASON CITY — A Mason City man accused of using stolen credit cards as well as fighting with officers when they tried to arrest him has entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors.
A criminal complaint states that 30-year-old Blake Harrer knowingly used stolen credit cards on multiple occasions at a local grocery store between December 1st and January 8th for a total amount of over $2000. The complaint also states that when officers attempted to execute a search warrant at his residence that he physically fought and resisted uniformed officers, causing serious injury to an officer that required medical treatment.
Harrer was originally charged with: ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison; as well as the Class D felonies of unauthorized use of a credit card under $10,000 and interference with official acts inflicting serious injury.
Harrer this week as part of a plea deal pleaded guilty to one count of forgery by unauthorized use of a credit card, a Class D felony, as well as interference with official acts resulting in serious injury. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend a five-year suspended prison sentence when Harrer is sentenced at a later date.
