UPDATED STORY — Police ask for public’s help as more details on East Park shooting released
MASON CITY — Mason City police are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate a shooting at East Park last night.
Chief Jeff Brinkley says officers were called shortly before 9:15 Thursday night to the park near the Prairie Playground after a caller reported a fight and possible shots fired.
On arrival, officers found an adult male who was suffering from gunshot wounds. The Mason City Fire Department transported the unnamed male to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center for treatment, but Brinkley says an update on the victim’s condition is not available at this time.
Brinkley says the suspect fled the scene along with other involved parties and witnesses, with one firearm being recovered during the investigation. He says the parties involved in the incident were known to one another and this incident is part of an ongoing feud.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
