Gordon P. Wickwire, 98, of Rockwell

Gordon P. Wickwire, 98, of Rockwell, Iowa, passed away on April 24, 2025, at the Rockwell
Nursing Home—one day before his 99th birthday.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Faith United Church of
Rockwell, 303 Monroe St., Rockwell, IA 50469. A viewing will be held the day prior to the
service, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the church. Burial will be
held following the funeral service on Friday at the Rockwell Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Gordon P. Wickwire was born on April 25, 1926, in Hampton, Iowa. He was the son of Martin
and Anna (Smith) Wickwire. On October 1, 1946, he married Wava June Vosburgh. At the time
of his death, they had been married 78 years.

He was a member of the armed forces and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1947.
Gordon worked at the Rockwell Cooperative Telephone Company for 36 years until his
retirement.

Gordon and Wava loved to travel, play cards, fish, and spend time with their family. He was also
an active member of the Rockwell United Methodist Church for 65 years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wava June Wickwire; daughters, Beverly Peters
and Nancy Beenken, both of Rockwell; four grandchildren, Monica (John) McLaughlin, Chad
Beenken, Carrie Demory, and Tina (Joe) Mathahs; nine great-grandchildren and eleven great-
great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and four brothers; his son-in-law, Darwin
Peters; his grandson-in-law, Mike Demory; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the loving care given by the Rockwell
community Nursing Home. They also wish to thank Wendy Johannessen for her visits and
prayers.
