NIACC weekend roundup — softball team sweeps Northeast but drops two to Iowa Central; baseball sweeps Iowa Lakes

MASON CITY — The 22nd-ranked NIACC softball team wrapped up regular season play over the weekend by sweeping Northeast Community College before dropping a doubleheader to 10th-ranked Iowa Central. Ally Wall on Saturday hit three home runs in the opening game in a 6-0 win. Macy Kellar fired a three-hit shutout, striking out four in the nightcap for a 10-0, five-inning win. On Sunday, Iowa Central picked up the sweep, winning the opener 5-4 in ten innings before taking game two 3-2. NIACC finishes the regular season with a 33-21 overall record and finished 17-11 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. They are the fourth seed overall in the Region 11 tournament and will play in the Region 11-A Tournament in Boone starting on Friday facing the fifth-seed Iowa Lakes. In the other half of the double-elimination bracket, top-seed DMACC will face Hawkeye Community College.
MASON CITY — The NIACC baseball team swept their weekend series with Iowa Lakes at Roosevelt Field. On Saturday, NIACC took the doubleheader with wins of 3-0 and 8-1. Zack Johnson picked up the win in the opener, striking out six in five innings of work. The Trojans outlasted Iowa Lakes in Sunday’s single game 10-9. Designated hitter Tommy Lyman was 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, while Minchan Kim was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. NIACC is 17-30 overall and 10-18 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. They return to action Wednesday with a doubleheader at home against Indian Hills.
