BOONE — The 23rd-ranked NIACC softball team’s season came to a close on Sunday afternoon after being eliminated by 5th-ranked DMACC in the Region 11-A title game.
NIACC made their way to the title game by beating Iowa Lakes 10-8 on Friday, and after falling to DMACC 2-1 on Saturday in the second round, they bounced back in an elimination game by beating Iowa Lakes again 8-2.
On Sunday, NIACC took a 3-0 lead after the top of the third after a two-run home run by Katie Riesselman. DMACC scored single runs in the third and fourth and then capped off the game with a three-run sixth inning to win 5-3.
NIACC finishes their season with a 35-23 record. It’s the third consecutive season with 30-plus wins for the Trojans and it’s the first time in program history that the team remained ranked all season.
