Grand reopening ribbon cutting for Mason City Police Department Wednesday

MASON CITY — The public is invited to the grand reopening of the Mason City Police Department on Wednesday.

The Mason City police station facility at 78 South Georgia opened in 1978 with a $1.8 million renovation to the building nearing completion. The project focused on updating plumbing systems and remodeling space to make the building more functional for modern policing operations.

That included things like: removing the unused jail cells and installation of main floor evidence day lockers, processing area and purpose-built storage; relocation of long-term evidence storage with purpose-built storage shelving; removal of existing locker room and bathroom facilities for replacement with purpose-built lockers and new bathroom facilities; the addition of gym space for strength and cardio training; and a complete remodel of public restrooms on the first floor.

The project started in November 2023 with the final items currently being completed. Significant funding for the project came from Local Option Sales and Service Taxes.

The ribbon cutting takes place tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM.
