Lt. Governor Cournoyer officially kicks off campaign for State Auditor

DES MOINES — Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor formally kicked off her campaign today to run for State Auditor.

Republican Chris Cournoyer of LeClaire was a state senator from 2018 until the end of last year when Kim Reynolds appointed her to fill the vacancy left by Adam Gregg’s resignation from the position.

Cournoyer worked as a senior consultant in the technology division at Anderson Consulting, a Fortune 500 firm that later became Accenture. She also has built a successful business as an independent website designer and developer.

During her tenure in the Iowa Senate, she chaired the Senate Education Budget Committee, was vice chair of the State Government committee and sat on the Education, Natural Resources and Environment, Transportation, and Ways & Means committees.

In her announcement, Cournoyer says as the state continues to cut taxes and streamline government, the Auditor’s Office must lead by example and serve as a true watchdog for the taxpayer, not a political weapon. She says it’s time for a State Auditor who prioritizes transparency, efficiency and results over headlines and partisanship.

If Cournoyer wins the Republican nomination, she’d likely face incumbent Democrat Rob Sand in the November 2026 general election.
