Mason City man pleads not guilty to child sexual abuse charges

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has pleaded not guilty to child sexual abuse charges.
40-year-old Darwin Lopez Palma was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail last month on four counts of second-degree sexual abuse. Court records show that authorities accuse Lopez Palma of sexually abusing one child three different times between May 30th of last year and April 1st of this year, and a separate child one time between April 9th of last year and April 1st of this year.
Lopez Palma was due in court for his arraignment hearing on Monday, but instead filed a written plea of not guilty to the charges. No trial date was immediately listed in court records.
Lopez Palma is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a total of $100,000 cash-only bond. Second-degree sexual abuse is a Class B felony, with each charge punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
