Hinson applauds US trade deal with UK, hopes opens other doors for other agreements

MARION — North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson is thanking White House leaders for a trade deal with the United Kingdom that would cut tariffs on British autos, steel and aluminum while increasing access for US agricultural products.
Hinson says the swiftly-done deal will hopefully open other doors for other trade agreements to be made. “I think it will unleash a flurry of other activity with other countries and provide us access to new markets, which is what our producers have been reaching out to me for for years. Unfortunately, under the Biden Administration, we did not see any prioritization of trade, we just saw the trade deficit grow. So our farmers deserve that long-term certainty.”
Hinson says she will continue to be adamant about making sure trade partners are following the rules and not further harming American producers. “Getting these people to the table is important through the tariff discussions, but backing that up with actual tariff enforcement, trade enforcement, duty enforcement to push back on maligned intentions coming out of these countries to deliberately undermine our producers every single day. I will continue with that approach, and I’m very, very pleased to see this first deal be announced.”
President Trump says the agreement will lead to more beef and ethanol exports to the UK.
