Mason City woman charged with taking almost $43,000 from local credit union

MASON CITY — A Mason City woman has been charged with taking almost $43,000 from a local credit union.
A criminal complaint states that Mason City police started an investigation in March after CENT Credit Union reported that during an internal audit of escrow accounts, it was discovered that there were several cashiers’ checks cut from multiple escrow accounts for personal use by one of their employees, 45-year-old Casey Servantez.
Further investigation showed that between May 2023 and January of this year, Servantez had cut checks totaling about $42,957. Servantez has been charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.
Servantez made her initial appearance in Cerro Gordo County court on Friday. No future court date was immediately listed in court records.
