Now that trade deal done with UK, Hinson says Congress needs to follow-up with ag legislation

WASHINGTON — North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson says now that a trade deal has been done between the United States and the United Kingdom that will increase access for US agricultural products to be exported to the UK, along with cutting tariffs on British autos, steel and aluminum, it’s time to move forward on other bills to support Iowa farmers.
Hinson says Congress now needs to follow-up on the announcement of that deal with strong policy to help farmers across the country. “We need to follow that up, these great trade deals with good policy on our end, delivering a full reauthorization of the Farm Bill as well. I’m working with House Agriculture Committee chairman GT Thompson to help get whatever positions included in the reconciliation process that we can while still working for a stand-alone Farm Bill.”
In making the announcement last week that a trade deal between the US and UK had been struck, President Trump said the agreement would lead to more beef and ethanol exports to the UK.
