State Auditor Sand announces run for governor

DES MOINES — State Auditor Rob Sand announced this morning he is running for governor.
The Democrat who is a native of Decorah has been Iowa’s state auditor since 2019 after beating Republican incumbent Mary Mosiman. Previous to that, Sand was a state assistant attorney general since 2010.
The 42-year-old Sand earned a degree in political science from Brown University and got his law degree from The University of Iowa.
During his time in the Iowa Attorney General’s office, he won a conviction in the case against the man who rigged Hot Lotto jackpots in five states.
Sand becomes the second Democrat to declare his candidacy for the top state office joining Paul Dahl of Webster City, who threw his hat into the Democratic primary race in November.
On the Republican side, former state representative Brad Sherman has announced his candidacy while current state senator Mike Bousselot has formed an exploratory committee
