Clear Lake’s mayor talks about hiring of new city administrator

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake’s mayor says it was a tough decision for the City Council to choose from the three finalists for city administrator. The city announced late on Friday that Charles City’s current city administrator Steven Diers officially accepted an offer for the position, pending formal approval by the council at their May 19th meeting.

Mayor Nelson Crabb says the city’s search panel had a lot of discussion about the three candidates but Diers ultimately was considered to be the best choice.  “We felt that as one of the panel members said that Steve could probably hit the ground running when he came here because of the experience that he’s had in the past, and most recently at Charles City. Lots of partnering and collaboration over there.”

Crabb says the city is excited for Diers to be their next leader.  “Boil it all down, we feel very comfortable with and offered him a contract last weekend, and he brought it back personally himself to us, and he was excited to have that position as we were to have him.”

Diers will start his new job on July 7th. Crabb made his comments on the “Ask the Mayor” podcast that was published earlier this morning on northiowanow.com.
