State qualifying track meet recaps
DECORAH — The Clear Lake track teams automatically qualified a total of 14 events at the state track meet next week after last night’s state qualifier in Decorah. On the girls side, Clear Lake finished third as a team with 126 points. Reese Brownlee once again became a four-time state qualifier as she picked up wins in the 400, 400 hurdles, long jump, and as part of the sprint medley relay team. Addie Doughan won the 3000 and finished second in the 1500. Saylor Schmitt qualified in the 800 after finishing second. On the boys side, Clear Lake finished third as a team with 126 points. Alex Kerr qualified in three events, the 100, 200 and as part of the 4×400 relay team. Cooper Cooke qualified in the 110 hurdles and as part of the shuttle hurdle relay team. Sam Howland qualified in the high jump, while Landyn Lewerke was a qualifier in the discus.
GARNER — At the 2A qualifying meet in Garner, Forest City won the girls team title, qualifying in five events and scoring a total of 124 points. On the boys side, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura placed second as a team with 105 points, with Forest City finishing fourth with 82.
NORTHWOOD — West Hancock edged St. Ansgar by 83-hundreths of a point to take the boys team title at the 1A state qualifying track meet in Northwood last night. West Hancock had 120.83, with the Saints having 120 points. North Butler was third with 95 points. St. Ansgar won the girls team title with 138 points, easily outdistancing second place Lake Mills, who had 89 points.
