Homeless Mason City man charged with sexual abuse of child

MASON CITY — A homeless Mason City man is in jail after being arrested on child sexual abuse charges.
According to criminal complaints filed by the Mason City Police Department, 31-year-old Richard Martinez is accused of two charges of second-degree sexual abuse after allegedly performing a sexual act with a child under the age of 13 in her bedroom at a Mason City home between September 19th of last year and March 31st of this year.
Martinez was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail on those charges as well as a charge of failure to appear in court. He’s being held on a total of $52,000 bond.
Second-degree sexual abuse is a Class B felony, with each charge carrying a penalty of up to 25 years in prison.
