Clear Lake woman pleads guilty to burglary, assaulting police officer

CLEAR LAKE — A guilty plea has been filed by a Clear Lake woman accused of burglary and assaulting a police officer.
A criminal complaint states that on the night of February 15th, Clear Lake police were called to a unit at the Green Meadows Mobile Home Park at 2400 South Shore Drive after the report of a burglary in progress. On arrival, police say 36-year-old Jessica Peterson flagged down the officers in front of her unit and allegedly admitted to being the person who was at the unit where the incident took place.
The complaint says there was a dispute between Peterson and the people in that unit, with the residents stating she came there two separate times. The first time, Peterson allegedly pushed and kicked the bottom of the main entry door. The second time, she forced the main door off of the hinges, grabbed one of the two occupants and pulled him down the steps onto the floor of the enclosed porch area, where he says he was kicked in the chin. When being arrested, police say Peterson was placed into handcuffs but kicked one of the officers in the upper thigh and lower groin.
Peterson had been charged with: second-degree burglary causing bodily injury, a Class C felony; as well as assault on persons in certain occupations with the intent to injure, a Class D felony.
As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Peterson has now filed guilty pleas to third-degree burglary and assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury. When she’s sentenced on June 30th, prosecutors will recommend a five-year suspended prison sentence on the burglary charge, one year in jail with all but seven days suspended on the assault charge, and a total of four years of probation.
