Another good week of work in Iowa fields

DES MOINES — Dry weather last week allowed for another good week of field work in north-central Iowa, according to the latest USDA crop report.

Statewide, 97% of the corn has been planted, with 87% emerged. That’s six days ahead of last year and one day ahead of normal. Corn condition rated 84% good to excellent.

96% of the expected soybean crop has been planted, with 79% emerged. That’s 10 days ahead of last year and four days ahead of the five-year average. Soybean condition rated 81% good to excellent.

Here in the north-central crop reporting district, 97% of the corn has emerged. 99% of the soybeans have been planted while 87% have emerged.

Soil moisture numbers continue to improve locally. North-central Iowa topsoil moisture numbers rate 2% surplus, 75% adequate and 23% short, while subsoil moisture numbers rate 11% surplus, 79% adequate and 10% short.
