Another Safe Haven baby turned over to the state

DES MOINES — The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says a baby was turned over to the state last month under the state’s Save Haven Law.
The department in a statement released on Monday says a baby girl was born on May 23rd and then was placed with a foster family until a permanent family has been determined. It’s the third baby reported this year turned over under the Safe Haven Law, with two baby girls turned over to the state back in February.
The Safe Haven Law allows a baby who is under the age of 90 days to be turned over with no questions asked. Under the law, the location of where the baby was turned over is not disclosed to protect the identity of the parents.
There have been 77 Safe Haven babies turned over to the state since the law was passed in 2002.
