DECORAH — Luther College in Decorah announced on Tuesday that they are leaving the American Rivers Conference and heading to the Midwest Conference.
Luther, along with Buena Vista, Central and Simpson were founding members of the Iowa Conference back in 1922, with the Iowa Conference becoming the American Rivers Conference in 2018.
Luther has accepted an invitation to join the Midwest Conference starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. They will become the ninth full member of the conference, which also includes Iowa schools Cornell and Grinnell.
Luther has struggled in football in recent years, winning only a total of five games in the last six full seasons, with the school’s last football conference title coming back in 1978.
