City of Mason City adopts new logo as part of marketing, branding effort

MASON CITY — The City Council in Mason City this week approved a new city logo.
The council during goal setting sessions over the last few years identified the need for new marketing and branding, and with numerous projects of significance nearing completion, the focus on branding and marketing was identified as being of an even higher importance.
Main Street Mason City took the lead in the branding efforts in collaboration with Main Street Iowa and hired a consultant, who proposed more uniform logos for the city and Visit Mason City.
City Administrator Aaron Burnett says the logo celebrates the architectural heritage of the community. “You can see the stained-glass resemblance. It’s a cohesive design with the Visit Mason City rebranding and the downtown rebranding, the idea being that it obviously has a lot of color schemes that tie in to the Prairie School architecture. The blue and green that you see on the bottom embodies the waterways that run through Mason City. You can see the ‘M’ and ‘C throughout the design.”
Burnett says updating the logo was not only a priority for the council, but it was also a priority with the investments that have been made in Mason City and the region. “We see the efforts over in Clear Lake and here in Mason City and all of north Iowa as looking to continue to market itself to visitors and to future residents. As you can see from the logo, it’s a great step forward and a modern feel, and making sure that we’re having the full story put out there. The previous logo, not to bash the previous logo, but the music notes, it was becoming dated.”
Burnett says the rebranding implementation will happen over the coming years as some uses of the old logo will take a while to replace while others like letterhead and the city’s online presence will be changed very quickly.
