Former Clear Lake Lion, Hawkeye Ken Grabinski Passes

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Ken Grabinski, a member of the 1970 University of Iowa men’s basketball Big Ten regular season championship team, passed away suddenly on June 4. He was 75.
Grabinski was a three-year letterwinner from 1970-72. He was a starter on the 1971 team, while being a reserve in 1970 and 1972. During his Hawkeye career, he averaged 4.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 62 games.
The Clear Lake, Iowa, native helped Iowa to a 20-5 overall record in 1970, which included a perfect 14-0 record in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Grabinski was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 1971.
Grabinski prepped at Clear Lake High School, helping lead the team to the state tournament in 1968. He was inducted into the Iowa High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1968.
A celebration of life will be held on July 6 in Iowa City.
