State Auditor Sand brings his campaign for governor to Mason City

MASON CITY — State Auditor Rob Sand is about a month into his campaign to be Iowa’s next governor.

Sand is the only Democrat to currently hold statewide office and says the response to his campaign has been met positively so far. “I want this to be a campaign that’s about all of Iowa, to have a governor for all of Iowa, where we break down the walls that the Democratic and Republican parties want to have up between us and talk to each other and actually get to work solving our own problems.”

Sand knows one of his goals of the campaign will be to capture independent voters. He says it’s likely even if he is elected, he’ll still have to work with a Republican- controlled legislature. “They’ll also benefit through a structure if I win this race and am elected governor, I’ll be working with a Republican legislature. So the policies that are getting pursued in the state of Iowa are going to end up being policies that reflect a broader, common sense that more Iowans can agree on.”

Sand made a campaign appearance on Sunday evening in Mason City that was attended by about 150 people.
