Cerro Gordo supervisors approve county-owned public dock approach maintenance policy

MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors has approved a policy dealing with the public dock approaches and steps to make sure they are maintained safely.
County administrative officer Tom Meyer says it’s the responsibility of those renting dock space on a county-owned dock in keeping the public approaches in satisfactory condition and this policy helps with a potential cost-share system to help with those costs. “Coming out of a board staff, here’s a policy of a cost-sharing formula that the board chooses to do that and to prove you still have flexibility, but to give a formula for helping with docks or approaches that may need to be repaired.”
Meyer says those approaches will be reviewed by the county to see which ones are in a state of disrepair. “This is also based on myself and the county engineer reviewed docks and determining which ones are a hazard or a safety issue that really need to be repaired, so it’s not an option after that point.”
The policy says the dock users may request that the county cost share if the cost of the scope of work is over $4000 or $1000 multiplied by each dock user, whichever is larger, and that the replacement plans are reviewed and approved by the county engineer.
