Clear Lake’s mayor honored as Iowa Tourism Industry Partners “Elected Official of the Year”

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake’s mayor Nelson Crabb has been honored as the “Elected Official of the Year” by the Iowa Travel Industry Partners organization.

The award is presented annually to an elected official at any government level who the organization says dynamically supports activity that bolsters the economic impact that tourism produces for the state. The group in making their choice says Crabb has been a champion for tourism, from boosting major events to leading over $3 million in lake restoration projects that protect Clear Lake’s most valuable asset.

Crabb says it’s an award the city as a whole can be proud of.  “This award, even though it had my name on it, really goes to the City of Clear Lake as a whole. What it was really related to was the success that we’ve had here in the restoration of Clear Lake itself, and as you know, that goes clear back to the mid 1990s.”

Crabb says tourism in Clear Lake’s key stretch is between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but he says tourism is a 12-month industry in the community.  “I do believe that’s what they recognize within this award is that lots of things are going on in Clear Lake now and you don’t have to stay away the other eight or nine months from there.”

Crabb received the award on Tuesday morning during a ceremony held in Winterset.

Crabb made his comments during the “Ask the Mayor” podcast which was published earlier today at this link
