High school roundup from Tuesday June 10 — Kruckenberg tosses perfect game in Newman win over MCHS

MASON CITY — Sami Kruckenberg fired a perfect game as Newman beat Mason City 4-0 Tuesday night in their annual Coaches Versus Cancer cross-town rivalry softball game, which you watched last night and can watch again by heading to the Mason City Riverhawks page under the sports tab at northiowanow.com. Kruckenberg retired all 21 batters she faced, striking out the first six Riverhawk batters that came to the plate in the contest, and striking out 11 total in the game. Newman improves to 8-1 on the season with the victory and travel north to face #10/2A Central Springs tonight. Mason City drops to 1-6 on the year and will travel to Des Moines Lincoln tonight.

MASON CITY — The Newman baseball team scored in all but one inning of their 11-1, six-inning victory last night at home against East Buchanan. Cal McGuire picked up the win, going three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out five, while eighth-grader Kameron Kropp also pitched three innings, allowing only one hit. Adam Henrich and West Cole each had two runs batted in with Cole hitting a home run. Newman is 9-5 on the season and will travel up to Central Springs tonight in Top of Iowa Conference East Division action.
