Mason City’s city administrator asks for public’s patience with highway construction projects
MASON CITY — Mason City’s city administrator is asking for the public’s patience while road construction projects are taking place on two major roadways through the community.
US Highway 65 from State Highway 122 down to 15th Street Southeast and Southwest is completely closed due to a reconstruction of the road, while State Highway 122 around MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is down to one lane of traffic each way as work continues on the north side of the road.
Aaron Burnett reminds everyone that it’s not only the road that is being replaced in those two stretches. “I know sometimes it’s frustrating. I’ve heard from some citizens on this that they feel like it’s moving so slow, just replace the road. One of the things I always try to remind people is the amount of utilities that are in those roadways and the replacements that occur with that. While they don’t see a lot happening, there’s a lot of work that happens beyond just the pavement that they see on top.”
Burnett says they’ve been in contact with the businesses that have been impacted by the construction. “Obviously the road construction going north-south has really cut off some businesses, so we encourage people to reach out and patronize those businesses that are impacted. We continue to be in contact with them, try and get out of their way as quick as possible.”
The US Highway 65 project is scheduled to be fully completed by the end of November.
