Northwood woman accused of insurance fraud

NORTHWOOD — The Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau has filed charges against a Northwood woman, accusing her of falsely claiming she suffered the same accident over and over, in an attempt to get money.
Court documents state that 30-year-old Marquise Lewis-Swinney filed a legitimate insurance claim on July 1st of last year because her vehicle had suffered damage after rocks fell from a trailer of a truck she was following. The trucking company’s insurer agreed to pay the claim of just over $7100 for property damage and bodily injury.
The Fraud Bureau says Lewis-Swinney then tried to fake the same accident five more times between July and October of last year, seeking out trucks hauling rock, persuade the drivers to pull over, get their insurance information, and then file a claim saying rocks fell from their truck and damaged her windshield. The complaint says Lewis-Swinney would use photos from the July 1st accident damage in submitting her false insurance claim. Lewis-Swinney has been charged with five counts of insurance fraud by presenting false information.
She was served a warrant on Tuesday and has made her initial appearance in Worth County court.
