Grassley “very upset” at proposal to increase farm payment limits

WASHINGTON — Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is not happy about a portion of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” that would increase the payment limits to farmers and tie them to inflation.

Grassley says with President Trump trying to get the nation’s fiscal health in order, he’s encouraging Congress to not increase those limits.  “That’s why I urge my colleagues to join me and close the actively engaged loophole. Shut off the spending spigots and get behind reasonable payment limits. We shouldn’t be sending federal farm payments to people without dirt under their fingernails. That includes Wall Street banking and anyone else without sweat equity on the farm.”

Grassley says he’s troubled by the proposed increase.   “I’m very upset that they’ve increased the payment limits from $125,000 to $155,000 and geared it to it. That’s just a waste of money, and so that’s something I’ve got to follow up on.”

Grassley says the text of the Senate budget legislation will be out on Friday, senators will have all of next week to review and react, with the Senate voting on it the following week.
