Mason City woman sentenced to five years on drug charge

MASON CITY — It’s five years in prison for a Mason City woman arrested on drug charges.

38-year-old Keyanna Garrett was arrested in March after being accused of knowingly and unlawfully possessing a white crystal substance resembling meth with the intent to deliver. A criminal complaint says Garrett possessed about 9.78 grams of the substance and several small baggies commonly used to sell meth. Garrett is also accused of possessing marijuana after being previously convicted of marijuana possession back in 2023.

Garrett was charged with: a Class B felony-level controlled substance violation; one count of failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony; as well as possession of marijuana second offense, a serious misdemeanor. She entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors, pleading guilty to one count of possession with the intent to deliver meth, a Class C felony, as well as possession of marijuana third offense, a Class D felony.

District Judge Gregg Rosenbladt this week issued a ten-year suspended prison sentence on the meth count, but sentenced Garrett to five years in prison on the marijuana charge. She was also fined a total of $2025, which was also suspended.
