Cerro Gordo County deputy arrested for fight outside of Iowa Falls bar pleads not guilty
IOWA FALLS — A Cerro Gordo County sheriff’s deputy arrested for a fight outside a bar in Iowa Falls last month has pleaded not guilty.
51-year-old John Crom of Mason City was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury as well as disorderly conduct after law enforcement was called to a fight outside the 503 Bar in Iowa Falls on May 17th.
A criminal complaint says a female victim with bruising on the left side of her face accused Crom of grabbing her and punching her in the face.
Crom told officers that he was acting in self-defense. The complaint states that Crom also suffered injuries consistent with a fight and there is security video of the fight.
Crom was due in court for his arraignment hearing earlier this week but last Friday filed a written plea of not guilty to the charges. His trial is scheduled to start on August 7th.
