MASON CITY — A Mason City man accused of using stolen credit cards as well as fighting with officers when they tried to arrest him has been sentenced to jail time.
30-year-old Blake Harrer was accused of knowingly using stolen credit cards on multiple occasions at a local grocery store between December 1st and January 8th for a total amount of over $2000. The complaint also states that when officers attempted to execute a search warrant at his residence that he physically fought and resisted uniformed officers, causing serious injury to an officer that required medical treatment.
Harrer was originally charged with: ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison; as well as the Class D felonies of unauthorized use of a credit card under $10,000 and interference with official acts inflicting serious injury. Harrer as part of a plea deal pleaded guilty to one count of forgery by unauthorized use of a credit card, a Class D felony, as well as interference with official acts resulting in serious injury.
District Associate Judge Adam Sauer this week sentenced Harrer to a five-year suspended prison sentence on the credit card fraud charge and 365 days in jail with all but 30 days suspended on the interference with official acts charge.
