Mason City man sentenced to over seven years in federal prison on meth dealing charge

SIOUX CITY — A Mason City man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a methamphetamine distribution charge.

The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa says 34-year-old Todd Sutton Junior was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to the charge in February. Prosecutors say in a plea agreement that Sutton admitted that on July 27th of last year, he was the driver of a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic violation in Cerro Gordo County.

He was arrested for driving while barred and taken to jail. While being booked, law enforcement found a plastic baggie containing about 45 grams of meth Sutton had discretely hidden on his person.

Previously, Sutton had attempted to conceal drugs on his person on two prior occasions when being processed at the Cerro Gordo County Jail for other offenses. Sutton has an extensive criminal history involving violence and drug convictions.

US District Judge Leonard Strand  sentenced Sutton to 90 months in prison. He must serve a four-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
