Despite few days to get in field last week, crop conditions are good throughout state

DES MOINES — Despite limited time for farmers to get into the field last week, crops are in good condition statewide according to the latest edition of the USDA Crop Report for the state of Iowa.
Virtually all of Iowa’s corn crop has emerged, and there were scattered reports of corn silking. Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 14% fair, 62% good and 21% excellent. Nearly all of the soybean crop has emerged.
Soybeans blooming reached 13%, five days ahead of both last year and the five-year average. In the north-central crop reporting district, 2% of the soybeans are blooming. Soybean conditions rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 19% fair, 61% good and 16% excellent.
Iowa’s oat crop reached 81% headed with 27% turning color. Here in north-central Iowa, 74% of the oats have headed and 15% have turned color. Oat condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 13% fair, 67% good and 18% excellent.
There were only 2.9 days suitable for field work in the north-central district last week, the worst of any crop reporting district. Statewide, that number was 4.3 days.
