CLEAR LAKE — Cheyanne Schroeder hit a two-run home run followed later by a walkoff two-run home run by Taylor Schwenn as Clear Lake beat Webster City 10-2 in six innings last night, as you saw on northiowanow.com. After trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Lions plated four runs in the second, one in the third, and then had a five-run sixth inning powered by the round-trippers by Schroeder and Schwenn. Clear Lake continues to hold the lead in the North Central Conference with an 8-1 record, two games ahead of St. Edmond in the win column. MASON CITY — Fort Dodge swept an Iowa Alliance Conference North Division baseball doubleheader at Mason City last night, taking wins of 7-1 and 9-4, as you saw on northiowanow.com. Mason City drops to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference and will travel to Des Moines East on Wednesday.
CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake split their North Central Conference baseball doubleheader at home last night with Webster City. In the opener, the Lions held off a late seventh-inning rally by the Lynx for a 4-2 win. Luke Furhman had two runs batted in. Jaxson Anderson picked up the win, going 6 ⅔ innings, striking out 12. Webster City took the nightcap 12-2 in five innings after scoring three runs each in the first and second innings and then blowing the game open with a six-run fourth. Clear Lake is 10-8 overall and 6-4 in the conference. The Lions host Forest City tonight at 7:30, a game you can hear on Mix 107.3 KIOW.
SHEFFIELD — Newman needed single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to beat West Fork 7-5 last night in Top of Iowa Conference East Division baseball in Sheffield. Cal McGuire and West Cole each knocked in a pair of runs, while Gage Peterson socked a solo home run. Kameron Kropp picked up the win, striking out four. Newman is now 9-0 in the conference and 14-5 overall. The Knights host Bishop Garrigan tonight
