John A. Brandt, 84, Clear Lake

Clear Lake – John A. Brandt, 84, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa
Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

John Anthony Brandt was born on July 12, 1940, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of John Sr. and Opal
(Thompson) Brandt. He graduated from Clear Lake High School with the Class of 1958. During
those years, he met his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Lysne, while walking to school. The two
were united in marriage on June 7, 1958, and were blessed with four children.

In 1961, John founded his own business, Brandt’s Docks & Hoists, which he successfully owned and
operated for 33 years until his retirement. He took great pride in serving the Clear Lake community
and beyond with dependable service and craftsmanship.

John had a deep love of nature and the outdoors. A passionate bow hunting enthusiast, he enjoyed
taking hunting trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, and Canada. He and Suzanne also shared a love
for travel and treasured their adventures together.

John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Suzanne Brandt; children: Jeffrey Brandt of Spokane,
Washington, Scott (Sue) Brandt of Clear Lake, and Robin (Michael) Ulve of Minnesota; six
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Vicki Sisco.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas John Brandt; his parents, John and Opal
Brandt; and his granddaughter, Afton Ulve.

John’s desire was a private family service. Those who wish to send a card of sympathy or a memorial
