Flood Watches in effect for Winnebago, Cedar Rivers in north-central Iowa

MASON CITY — Heavy rain that’s in the forecast for tonight into tomorrow has led the National Weather Service in Des Moines to issue a Flood Watch for the Winnebago River in north-central Iowa from Beaver Creek near Fertile through Mason City to the Shell Rock River near Rockford from Friday morning to Saturday morning.
The Weather Service says the flood stage of 10 feet in Mason City may be reached tomorrow morning. The river was at 8.1 feet late this morning. At 10 feet, widespread flooding occurs at city parks, with the water reaching the underside of the 12th Street Northeast bridge at the piers.
The Cedar River at Charles City is also under a Flood Watch from Saturday morning to early Sunday morning. The National Weather Service in La Crosse says the flood stage of 12 feet may be reached late Friday morning. The Cedar at Charles City was at 4.7 feet late this morning.
