High school roundup from Wednesday June 25th — Newman baseball suffers first conference loss

SHEFFIELD — The Newman baseball team was handed their first conference loss of the season on Wednesday morning as they fell to West Fork in the completion of a suspended game. West Fork used two runs each in the second and third and four more in the fourth for an 8-4 victory. Newman drops to 15-6 overall and 10-1 in the conference and is scheduled to host Don Bosco this evening.

 

DES MOINES — The Mason City High baseball team ruined Des Moines East’s senior night with a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday. In the opener, Mason City scored five times in the third, once in the fifth, and eight times in the sixth for a 14-0 win. Max Lang had five runs batted in to lead the Riverhawks. Mason City in the nightcap then jumped out with ten runs scattered over the first three innings and then scored three more in the fifth to outlast the Scarlets 13-10. Lang added two more runs batted in while Eli Schultz and Lincoln Berding also knocked in a pair of runs each. Mason City is 15-9 overall and is scheduled to travel to Humboldt this evening.
