Clear Lake woman sentenced on burglary, assaulting police officer charges

CLEAR LAKE — It’s a suspended prison sentence and a week in jail for a Clear Lake woman accused of burglary and assaulting a police officer.

Clear Lake police were called to a unit at the Green Meadows Mobile Home Park at 2400 South Shore Drive on the night of February 15th. A criminal complaint stated there was a dispute between 36-year-old Jessica Peterson and the residents of one of the other units, with the residents stating that she came there two separate times. The first time, Peterson allegedly pushed and kicked the bottom of the main entry door. The second time, she forced the main door off of the hinges, grabbed one of the two occupants and pulled him down the steps onto the floor of the enclosed porch area, where he says he was kicked in the chin.

When being arrested, police said Peterson was placed into handcuffs but kicked one of the officers in the upper thigh and lower groin.

Peterson was originally charged with: second-degree burglary causing bodily injury, a Class C felony; as well as assault on persons in certain occupations with the intent to injure, a Class D felony.

As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Peterson pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary and assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors recommended a five-year suspended prison sentence on the burglary charge, one year in jail with all but seven days suspended on the assault charge, and a total of four years of probation. District Judge Colleen Weiland agreed with that recommendation during a recent sentencing hearing for Peterson.
