Democrat Techau drops bid to unseat Hinson in Iowa’s Second Congressional District

CEDAR RAPIDS — Kevin Techau of Cedar Rapids announced two months ago that he was running for the Democratic nomination for Iowa’s Second Congressional District in an effort to unseat incumbent Ashley Hinson, but Techau has now announced that he is suspending his campaign.
Techau says in a written statement that the decision was made because of poor fundraising efforts and his campaign lacked the adequate funds to continue.
Techau, who was a former commissioner of the Iowa Department of Public Safety and former US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa, was running for public office for the first time.
No other Democrats have announced they were running for Iowa’s Second Congressional District, which includes Cerro Gordo, Worth, Mitchell, Floyd and Butler counties in our immediate listening area as well as the areas around Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Dubuque.
Techau is the second Democrat in the last few weeks to announce they were dropping out of a congressional race. Ryan Melton of Webster City announced on June 17th he was suspending his campaign for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District.
