High school roundup from Monday June 30 — Osage softball loses for first time this season

OSAGE — The Osage softball team suffered their first loss of the season last night, as the 4th-ranked in Class 2A Green Devils dropped a 7-1 decision at home to #8/2A West Fork. Libby Trewin fired a five-hitter and struck out ten from the circle for the Warhawks, and helped her own cause knocking in two runs from the plate. Osage drops to 22-1 overall on the season, while West Fork improves to 16-4. In the Top of Iowa Conference standings, Osage is 9-1, Newman is 8-1, while West Fork is 9-2.

MASON CITY — Newman scattered 11 hits as they beat Estherville Lincoln Central 8-1 in a non-conference baseball game at home last night. Colin Bleile and West Cole each knocked in three runs, with Cole hitting a home run. Eighth-grader Kameron Kropp picked up the win on the mound, striking out three. Newman improves to 19-7 overall and will travel to Roland-Story for a doubleheader tonight

WATERLOO — Mason City High picked up a doubleheader sweep at Waterloo East in Iowa Alliance Conference North Division baseball last night. The Riverhawks only needed five innings to down the Trojans 13-2 in the opener. Isaac Rickers, Marquez Holton, and Kinnick Brown each knocked in three runs while Gabe Ries had a solo home run. In the nightcap, Mason City was helped by an eight-run fifth inning as they held off Waterloo East 17-11. Eli Schultz had three runs batted in while Rickers and Brown as well as Bennett Miller knocked in two. Mason City is now 18-11 overall and 7-5 in the conference. They’ll host Marshalltown in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
