Iowa Attorney General Bird announces she’s running for reelection, not for governor

DES MOINES — Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird says she will seek reelection in 2026 and will not be running for governor.
In April, a few days after Governor Kim Reynolds announced that she would not seek another term, Bird told a crowd at an Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition gathering that she was wrestling with a decision about her own political future.
Bird on Wednesday told The Des Moines Register that she’s running for another term because there was more work to do as attorney general. She says she was born and raised on a farm, and the one thing she says she knows is you don’t stop halfway through a job.
Bird in a written statement published on Wednesday said her office had accomplished big victories such as stopping scammers, fighting for victims, standing up for law enforcement and defending our constitutional rights, but added there was still more work to do.
