Ribbon cutting ceremony held for Bing Town Child Care in Sheffield

SHEFFIELD — A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in Sheffield on Wednesday for the new Bin Town Child Care.

The center came after the Sheffield Child Care Expansion, a consortium spearheaded by Sukup Manufacturing, the West Fork School District and United Bank and Trust Company, was able to utilize state grant money and community donations to construct the center, which opened in October of last year.

Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer was the keynote speaker for the ceremony. She says child care has long been a priority for the Reynolds administration. “It’s why we’ve expanded Iowa’s child care capacity by nearly 27,000 slots in the span of the last four years. It’s also why just over one month ago we launched a statewide fund to raise child care wages, continued our pilot program to extend child care assistance for child care workers, and introduced a new grant program for providers for all daycare to four-year-olds.”

Cournoyer commended the community effort to expand child care options in Sheffield.  “Today, Bin Town is the result. A warm, safe, engaging center that serves over 100 kids with all the guidance and care they deserve. This is what happens when vision and action come together, when community solutions are bottom up, not top down, and when employers and citizens join forces to get every child and every family a chance to succeed.”

Bin Town Child Care is close to 9000 square feet in space, with six classrooms and a state-of-the-art kitchen. The child care has a capacity of about 120.
