Forest City man charged with infrastructure sabotage at apartment building

FOREST CITY — A Forest City man has been charged with critical infrastructure sabotage after being accused of shutting off the gas and water at an apartment complex over the weekend.
A criminal complaint filed in Winnebago County District Court states that 54-year-old Anthony Kokakis allegedly went into the utility room at the Brown Apartments at 136 West G Street at about 6:30 on Sunday morning and shut off the water and gas supply to multiple units. The complaint says witnesses and Kokakis’ social worker told police that this is not the first time he had shut those off. Kokakis lives in an adjacent apartment building.
Kokakis is also accused of burglarizing an unoccupied truck parked at the complex and smoked a pack of cigarettes belonging to the vehicle’s owner.
Kokakis is charged with one count of critical infrastructure sabotage, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison, as well as third-degree burglary of a motor vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor.
He’s due in court for his preliminary hearing on July 17th.
