Mason City man charged with attempted murder, burglary enters into plea agreement, headed to prison

MASON CITY — A Mason City man accused of multiple charges including attempted murder has now entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors.

20-year-old Travun York was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail in May of last year on charges of attempted murder, willful injury causing serious injury, three counts of third-degree burglary and one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief.

York is accused of multiple break ins in December 2022 at the Mason City Arena, EZ Pawn at 1417 4th Southwest, and at a home in the 900 block of North Kentucky. He’s also accused of a robbery at B&B Coin at 1631 4th Southwest on March 25th of last year where he allegedly stole a bag containing $12,000.

On May 14th of last year, York allegedly stabbed a person in the face, head and neck during an attack in the zero block of North Monroe Avenue, with the victim suffering serious injuries.

According to documents filed in Cerro Gordo County District Court, York has pleaded guilty to: willful injury and second-degree robbery, Class C felonies; and three counts of third-degree burglary, each a Class D felony. As part of the agreement, the attempted murder charge was dismissed.

According to the terms of the agreements, it will be recommended that York be sentenced to ten years in prison on the willful injury and second-degree robbery charges, with the sentences to be served back-to-back, and with a mandatory minimum of 50% needing to be served on the robbery charge prior to consideration for parole. The recommendation will be for five year prison terms on the third-degree burglary charges, with those sentences to run at the same time as the other charges.

York is scheduled to be sentenced on July 21st in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
