Regular season play from Tuesday July 8 — Clear Lake baseball & softball win, MCHS baseball beats Algona

CLEAR LAKE — In regular-season softball last night, Clear Lake finished the regular-season schedule with a 3-0 win over Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference play, as you saw on northiowanow.com. Alivia Paine accounted for all the scoring, hitting a two-run home run in the first and then adding an RBI double in the sixth. Clear Lake finishes the regular season with a 17-10 record and ends up second in the conference with a 10-4 record. They’ll host Forest City in a 3A regional quarterfinal on Thursday evening. CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a 9-5 victory over Charles City at home. After Clear Lake jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, the Comets battled their way back with four runs in the fourth and a run in the top of the sixth, but the Lions put the game away with a four-run bottom of the sixth. Luke Furhman had two doubles and four runs batted in to lead Clear Lake. The Lions improve to 16-8 on the season and will travel to Humboldt on Friday night to start 3A substate play, a game you’ll hear on 103.7 The Fox starting at about 6:45 with the pre-game and 7 o’clock with the play-by-play.

 

MASON CITY — Mason City only needed five innings to down Algona 11-1 in non-conference baseball last night at Roosevelt Field. Mason City led 6-0 after the third inning and ended the game with a four-run fifth. Gabe Ries, Kinnick Brown and Owen Rickers all had two runs batted in. Mason City ends the regular season with a 24-12 record and will travel to Fort Dodge on Friday to start Class 4A substate play, a game you’ll hear on the Mason City Riverhawks page at northiowanow.com starting at 7 o’clock.
