Regional softball results from Thursday, Friday’s 1A & 2A regional semifinal schedule

CLEAR LAKE — Heavy rain about an hour before the scheduled start of the game last night forced the Clear Lake-Forest City Class 3A Region 3 quarterfinal round softball game to be postponed. The game is scheduled to be made up later tonight at 7 o’clock at Lions Field in Clear Lake. You can hear the game on our sister station Mix 107.3 KIOW. The winner of tonight’s game will face 13th-ranked Center Point-Urbana in Saturday’s regional semifinal round at 7 o’clock. If it’s Clear Lake, you’ll hear the game on 103.7 The Fox. If it’s Forest City, you’ll hear it on KIOW. Center Point-Urbana beat Hampton-Dumont-CAL 16-4 last night. On the other side of the 3A Region 3 bracket, 3rd-ranked Mount Vernon beat Union of LaPorte City 10-0, while Solon beat Anamosa 9-1.

WAVERLY — Mason City High’s softball season came to an end last night as they fell to Waverly-Shell Rock 9-0 in five innings in a Class 4A Region 8 quarterfinal round game, as you heard on the Riverhawks page on northiowanow.com. The Go-Hawks scored four times in the third and five times in the fourth to advance to the regional semifinals. Mason City ends their season with an 8-24 record. Waverly-Shell Rock will face 8th-ranked Fort Dodge in Saturday’s regional semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, Charles City beat Decorah 8-0. They’ll face #9 Western Dubuque tomorrow night.
