Newman, St. Ansgar advance to substate baseball championship games Tuesday night
MASON CITY — The 10th-ranked Newman baseball team had no problem capturing the Class 1A District 6 championship on Saturday night, beating South Hamilton 12-0. Colin Bleile had four runs batted in while Cal McGuire and Isaiah Kesten each knocked in two. Jase Anderson picked up the win, going three innings, striking out two and allowing only three hits. Newman advances to the Class 1A Substate 3 championship game tomorrow night in Decorah where they will face 9th-ranked Kee High
ST. ANSGAR — 6th-ranked St. Ansgar needed 10 innings to beat Bishop Garrigan 3-2 in the Class 1A District 3 championship game. St. Ansgar advances to play Wapsie Valley in the Substate 2 championship in Charles City on Tuesday night. Wapsie Valley beat West Fork 8-0 in the District 4 championship game.
