Mason City woman once again charged with multiple thefts from retail stores

MASON CITY — A Mason City woman charged with committing multiple thefts from Mason City retail stores but had her case dismissed by the court is now facing new charges of ongoing criminal conduct.
19-year-old Sarina Burgin was charged in mid-June with ongoing criminal conduct after Mason City police said that she committed thefts on May 31st, June 7th and June 16th, saying the thefts demonstrated a pattern of ongoing and consistent behavior, each involving the concealment and unlawful removal of merchandise without payment.
Magistrate Judge William Morrison a day later reviewed the complaint and found there was not probable cause to support the charge and dismissed the case without prejudice and ordered Burgin to be released.
New charges were filed against Burgin by Mason City police on June 30th, accusing her of using a stolen credit card six times on May 20th and 21st to purchase merchandise totaling $1278.
Burgin was arrested on July 12th and charged with: ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony; credit card fraud; possession of methamphetamine first offense; possession of cannabidiol first offense; interference with official acts; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail, where she’s being held on a total of $31,000 bond. Burgin is due in court for her preliminary hearing on July 23rd.
