Indiana man arrested north of Clear Lake after allegedly stealing UTV

CLEAR LAKE — An Indiana man has been jailed in Cerro Gordo County for felony motor vehicle theft.
A criminal complaint says 48-year-old Donald Gilbert of Monterey Indiana was stopped shortly before 6 o’clock on Tuesday morning in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near mile marker 195 north of Clear Lake after another driver called in a driving complaint. A state trooper pulled over the UTV Gilbert was driving, with Gilbert allegedly telling the trooper right away that he had stolen it.
The complaint says the owner of the UTV stated he did not give permission for anyone to drive it and did not know the $16,500 vehicle had been taken.
Gilbert has a non-extraditable warrant for vehicle theft out of Indiana.
Gilbert was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a charge of first-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison. He’s being held on a total of $10,000 bond.
Gilbert’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 25th.
