Naig says number of things addressed in “One Big Beautiful Bill” for Iowa farmers

CLEAR LAKE — Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says there were several things addressed in the budget bill Congress passed earlier this month that are good for Iowa farmers.
Naig says while farmers would have preferred a full comprehensive five-year Farm Bill, there were several policy issues that were updated as part of the legislation. “I would say from an agriculture standpoint and from an energy standpoint, that many of the provisions that we needed from a policy standpoint — modernizing and updating reference prices, extending important tax provisions for farmers and ag businesses — those things are in that bill. I think it’s good news for ag and renewable fuels in particular.”
Naig says things that weren’t covered in the budget bill hopefully will be addressed by Congress in the near future. “Now what we need to do on the backside of this is to say what didn’t make it in from a policy standpoint and how do we come back now and have a slimmed down or a skinny version of a Farm Bill and make sure we can clean those pieces up too.”
Naig made his comments during a recent stop in Clear Lake.
